Brown steps up election campaign Mr Brown has accused the Tories of trying to "scare" voters Gordon Brown is to promise that Labour will "stand up for the many" as he reveals the party's themes and slogan for the general election.Although the PM has not yet announced an election date, he will reveal four themes at an event in the West Midlands attended by senior cabinet ministers. They will include protecting jobs and ensuring a UK economic recovery, the BBC has learned. But the Conservatives say Mr Brown has "no plan" to cut the budget deficit. Mr Brown is widely expected to call the election for 6 May and all the main parties are stepping up their campaigning efforts. Chancellor Alistair Darling, Business Secretary Lord Mandelson, Home Secretary Alan Johnson and Chief Secretary to the Treasury Yvette Cooper will be at the Labour event.
