US ‘Jihad Jane’ charged with planning terror attacks in Europe

Colleen LaRose, a woman from suburban Philadelphia who was “desperate to do something” to help suffering Muslims, is also accused of agreeing to kill a Swedish citizen on orders from unnamed terrorists. Miss LaRose, who is believed to be 47, is alleged to have travelled to Sweden to carry out the killing, but it is understood she was stopped by the authorities before she could do it. ID Card Center of Immigration Plan

Lawmakers working to craft a new comprehensive immigration bill have settled on a way to prevent employers from hiring illegal immigrants: a national biometric identification card all American workers would eventually be required to obtain. Under the potentially controversial plan still taking shape in the Senate, all legal U.S. workers, including citizens and immigrants, would be issued an ID card with embedded information, such as fingerprints, to tie the card to the worker. The ID card plan is one of several steps advocates of an immigration overhaul are taking to address concerns that have defeated similar bills in the past. The uphill effort to pass a bill is being led by Sens. Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) and Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.), who plan to meet with President Barack Obama as soon as this week to update him on their work. US attacks East Jerusalem plans

Nearly 500,000 Jews live in more than 100 settlements built since 1967 US Vice-President Joe Biden has condemned Israel’s approval of 1,600 new homes for ultra-Orthodox Jews in East Jerusalem.Mr Biden, in Israel as part of US attempts to kick-start the peace process, said it was "the kind of step that undermines the trust we need". Palestinian leaders also condemned the controversial move. Israel insisted it was a procedural step with no connection to Mr Biden’s visit. The international community considers East Jerusalem occupied territory. Building on occupied land is illegal under international law, but Israel regards East Jerusalem - which it annexed in 1967 - as its territory. In a strongly worded statement, Mr Biden said: "I condemn the decision by the government of Israel to advance planning for new housing units in east Jerusalem. Baroness Mannigham-Buller spoke at a lecture in the House of Lords The former head of MI5 has claimed US intelligence agencies "concealed" their mistreatment of terror suspects.Baroness Eliza Manningham-Buller said she only discovered alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was waterboarded after retiring in 2007. In a lecture at the House of Lords, she said the US had been "very keen to conceal from us what was happening". Her comments follow controversy over UK agents’ alleged collusion with US counterparts using torture techniques. Last month it emerged that Binyam Mohamed, a British resident formerly held at Guantanamo Bay, had been subjected to "cruel, inhuman and degrading" treatment. "The Americans were very keen that people like us did not discover what they were doing Lady Manningham-Buller Ministers and current MI5 head Jonathan Evans have insisted that there was no collusion by UK security officers.
